WHAT IS THE BEST PIECE OF ADVICE ABOUT PLANNING OUR GIFT REGISTRY?

Always think about your guests first – what would our guests be happy to buy us? We know that 87% of guests prefer to buy a gift, if you are looking for a cash or honeymoon registry choice add some gifts as well. Most importantly, ensure there is always a wide choice of prices – right up to the week before – so that guests buying at the last minute are not stuck with the kitchen utensils, toaster, or anything they don’t deem as ‘special’.

As a generalisation, guests seem to love buying stemware and ‘forever’ things you’ll keep and remember them by.

WE HAVE LIVED TOGETHER AND DON’T NEED ANY HOMEWARES. WHAT DO YOU SUGGEST?

Many of us have seen our parent’s silverware and fine dining sets gathering dust in the cupboard. Registries today are about accessing beautiful gifts that you would normally budget for yourself. Even couples who say they don’t need anything often get swayed once they browse our site and see the range of brands and styles on display,

Wedding List Co is not just about the day to day homewares, we also offer a great range of unique gifts and experiences for the couple that have everything. What a perfect start to your married lives – reclining in your new Coco Republic armchair, admiring your new piece of artwork, while enjoying the wine from a Riedel glass – all purchased or at least contributed to by your guests. And what could be more personal and ever lasting then art?

WE WERE THINKING OF HAVING A WISHING WELL

The wedding list is really as much about the guests as it is about you. Remember it is a gift not an expectation. Guests generally will want to buy you a wedding gift and will buy off list or give nothing if they don’t like the gifts chosen or the request for cash.

However, all is not lost. Wedding List Co enables you to combine gifts and cash contributions on one registry. With our Contribution Registry you can create meaningful gifts such as a kitchen renovation, landscape gardening or a home deposit, click here for more details. There is a one off set up fee and the total amount collected by guests (less the processing charge to guests) is given to you after the event.

The key here is to add some tangible gifts as well. This gives your guests the choice, and because it is all on the one list they do not have to go to different stores or websites to see the options.

ARE WEDDING REGISTRIES GREEDY OR INAPPROPRIATE?

Gift registries are standard practice in Australian weddings.

Most couples who didn’t do a registry have always said afterwards they wished they had as they received a mixture of gifts that were not suited to their lives or were double ups. By the same token many guests we’ve spoken to who were invited to weddings that didn’t have a registry said they were really stuck with what to buy them. As one put it, “I’d hate to spend $200 on something and find they put it away in a cupboard”.

Having a registry gives your guests the choice. Most guests will use it and some guests will purchase something different off registry. We do know that most guests at every wedding always at least look at the list. That’s why if you do a list make sure there is a great choice of fun, unique and traditional gifts that will appeal to all your guests and most importantly, a great choice of prices.
